Rotary

Oxford Rotary Club was founded in 1924 and is part of Rotary International. 2004 marked eighty years of Rotary in Oxford. The club meets on Mondays at 13.00 in the Randolf Hotel.

Established in 1905, Rotary International is the world's largest service organization for business and professional people with some 1,243.000 members in 166 countries world-wide. There are 59,000 Rotarians in 1,835 clubs in Great Britain and Ireland, helping those in need and working towards world understanding and peace. Service above self is the organization's motto. The Foundations' most ambitious project so far has been PolioPlus, a campaign that has raised over $400 million to help the World Heath Organization and UNICEF immunise the world's children against polio, measles, diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus and TB.

Rotary Club of Oxford have organized the Fun Run in Oxford University Parks since 1989. Before that the club organized a very popular half-marathon in Oxford. Charities supported so far include Life Education Centers and Cystic Fibrosis. The proceeds from the 2008 run were donated to the Pathway Workshop; Headway Oxford; Age Concern; Parkinson’s Disease Society and other charities nominated by the runners and walkers themselves.
